Scotland’s leading roads event just keeps getting bigger and better. This year we are excited to introduce the first Bridges Scotland conference and exhibition, which will run in parallel with Road Expo Scotland.

After the world witnessed Scotland complete the engineering masterpiece of the Queensferry Crossing, the time is right to run these two events together and benefit from all the cross-sector intelligence they can bring to each other.

At Road Expo you can expect the usual array of top speakers, discussions and case studies, along with more than 100 suppliers showcasing their latest products, innovations and services to support this booming sector. We are proud to once again have the support of Transport Scotland and SCOTS (Society of Chief Officers of Transportation in Scotland) and our keynote address this year comes from Humza Yousaf, minister for transport and the islands.

It seems like everywhere you look in Scotland another major project is being completed, underway or being prepared and the sector should be proud of what it has achieved in the last year. This does not mean, however, there is a lack of serious issues to debate and tackle in the conference theatres and on the exhibition floor. How is local government collaboration progressing?

What impact will Brexit have on the infrastructure sector? How, given this terrible year of extreme weather around the world, can we make the network more resilient? What will the future of Smart Technology mean and how can we implement the Scottish ITS strategy? All of these issues will be discussed at what promises to be our best, biggest and most informative year yet.

It only remains for me to say I look forward to seeing you at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh on 1-2 November.

We are delighted to launch Bridges Scotland this year as part of Road Expo, bringing a conference stream focused on bridge design, construction and maintenance to this well-established and high-profile industry event.

Recent completion of the Queensferry Crossing has firmly put state-of-the-art structural engineering in the public spotlight in a dramatic way, and this is a great backdrop to our new initiative. We are confident that bridge owners and engineers in Scotland and the North of England will welcome the opportunity to attend the exhibition and conference, and to network with their peers and make new contacts without having to travel too far.

Our conference programme is firmly focused on the Scottish highways infrastructure market, with key issues being maintenance and management of structures that are often remotely located and the sole access link to rural communities.

And we are also pleased to reveal that the exhibition this year includes a selection of specialist suppliers to the bridge industry, giving our visitors yet another reason to attend.

Road Expo Scotland is Scotland's premier roads exhibition and conference. Over 100 exhibitors and more than 1,000 fellow Scottish road professionals will be in attendance this year on 1-2 November Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh.
