Sweco boasts five new senior hires

Engineering, environment and design consultancy Sweco UK has strengthened its transportation offering with five new senior hires, each bringing considerable experience to the company.

The news comes on the back of substantial growth in Sweco’s transport team over the past 12 months, securing a number of new road infrastructure contracts through its appointment to the Highways England Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF). These include schemes in the South of England, including the A47 and A303, and the smart motorway projects on the M3 and M27.

Clare Anderson joins the London office as operations director. She has more than 23 years’ experience in senior roles including operations director for AECOM Highways business and commercial director at Arup for its HS2 Phase 1 project.

Saumil Patel, a transport economist with more than 14 years’ experience working for both Atkins and Jacobs, has joined the business as technical director. He will be responsible for developing Sweco’s wider economic impact team to support a variety of public and private sector transport projects currently in the business pipeline, including the Highways England A47 Road Investment Strategy.

Dermot Hanney has also joined as principal transport planner to expand Sweco’s offering within public transport, active travel, and Platform Train Interface pedestrian planning. He joins from Jacobs, and has more than ten years’ experience designing integrated urban transport networks, which includes the development of the London Cycle Map used by Route Plan Roll.

In Manchester, John Cunningham has been appointed as operations director to grow the transportation business in the North West. He previously worked for large contractors including Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Carillion, on major projects including Manchester Metrolink, and the M60 smart motorway and A1 Barton to Leeming upgrades.

Peter Clay has joined the Bristol office as technical manager with over 28 years’ experience in bridge engineering. He previously established and developed Arcadis’ rail structures team and will help Sweco expand its presence within the rail sector nationwide.

Sweco consults on major projects nationwide via its network of 15 regional offices, with recent work including the Queensferry Crossing and the Bloomberg headquarters in London, the world’s most sustainable building.
