Road Expo: On the move

This year’s Road Expo Scotland includes an exhibition of more than 100 suppliers to Scotland’s highways industry, many of whom will be displaying the latest technology and safety equipment.

On top of this, Transport Scotland, the Scottish Government’s national transport agency, will be exhibiting. Its responsibilities include the National Transport Strategy, bus and freight policy, liaising with regional transport partnerships, major public transport projects, trunk road networks, sustainable transport and road safety and accessibility.

Technology company Dynniq, which has conference speakers at both the Transport Scotland and SCOTS theatre and the Bridges Scotland theatre, plans to highlight its intelligent transportation solutions.

This will be in the form of a case study. With a successful history in delivering traditional highway products and systems, Dynniq’s capabilities also include asset management systems, tunnel and bridge technology, cooperative vehicle implementation and cutting edge parking and air quality management solutions.

Highway Care, a leading supplier of vehicle restraint systems (VRS), traffic management vehicles and road safety products and services, will be joined by its install partner for Scotland, Stirling-based Central Traffic Management (CTM). It will be displaying the Red ‘X’ LED Light Arrow Package with Prism Sign and the SafeStop 90 HD crash cushion.

The dual function Red ‘X’, convoy and light arrow prism sign is controllable from the driver’s position while in motion, allowing contractors to make full use of a single vehicle for all traffic management techniques including mobile carriageway closure.

Phil Jeeves, commercial manager, mobile traffic management (MTP) at Highway Care said: ‘Highway Cares’ MTP department will be demonstrating our latest lorry mounted packages at Road Expo Scotland. We have the technology to support traffic management techniques for both mobile lane closures and IAN 187/15 convoy control vehicle operations with a single dual function Red “X” LED Light Arrow, Prism & Safe-Stop 90 HD Crash Cushion.’

Highway Care will also be promoting the BarrierGuard 800 portable steel barrier, designed to protect both motorists and construction workers. CTM also recently installed the Tau Tube crash cushion in conjunction with the BarrierGuard 800 on a project on the M8 in Scotland – the first temporary installation of its kind in the country.

Ian Davey, commercial manager, road barrier systems at Highway Care, said: ‘Partnering with CTM Group, we are able to offer local stock of BarrierGuard 800, over 10Km, to Scotland and the North of England, enabling quick deployment for local maintenance projects and larger sector scheme works.’

Also on the impact protection front, King Highway and its specialist rental arm, Safety Vehicle Hire & Lease Ltd, will be exhibiting one of their latest impact protection vehicles to showcase the advanced design and safety features now available on every new vehicle for either sale or hire.

King Highway and Safety Vehicle Hire & Lease have developed a range of truck equipment for traffic management companies and local authorities and now offer a broadly-based range of specialist traffic management equipment.

The King Interface System – ‘KIS’ – operating system has been updated to include even more functionalities for an easy, quick and smooth operation of the traffic management features. The vehicle on display at Road Expo Scotland incorporates the latest recording equipment.

Safecote Ltd, a long-established supplier of winter highway products, will be exhibiting its recently launched MobiWin fleet and winter management system, which manages critical winter weather data and the activities of salt spreaders and other vehicles through a combination of GPS tracking, route optimisation and decision support software.

Other Safecote winter highway products include its additive to improve the performance of salt and reduce its usage and a range of liquid de-icers to suit all needs and spray equipment.

The firm also offers weather sensors, mobile and static, with various power options, brine making and storage tanks for customers using liquids, and salt covered storage options, including a robust sheeting solution.

Road Expo Scotland is Scotland's premier roads exhibition and conference. Over 100 exhibitors and more than 1,000 fellow Scottish road professionals will be in attendance this year on 1-2 November Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh.
