Plymouth set for wave of 20mph restrictions

New 20mph speed limits could be imposed on nearly 80 roads in Plymouth, along with a range of other traffic calming and road safety measures.

Plymouth City Council has proposed the new speed limits as an early step in a long-term plan to introduce 20mph limits in residential roads wherever possible. Other safety measures incluse the introduction of speed cushions.

Cllr Brian Vincent, cabinet member for streetscene at Plymouth City Council, said: ‘We are currently proposing reducing the speed limit in some areas of the city, as part of a range of measures, to make roads safer and save lives.

‘The aim is to reduce the number and severity of road casualties among school pupils in the city, reduce speed in residential areas, and address local concerns that have been raised about traffic and transport issues.’

The proposals have been put out to public consultation by Plymouth City Council. Residents can send reactions to highways@plymouth.gov.uk quoting reference Amd.2015.2040411 - Speed by September 28.
