Mark Pengelly, group managing director of Kier Group’s Infrastructure business and managing director of the joint venture building an 80km section of HS2, is to retire at the end of the year.
Mr Pengelly joined Kier 39 years ago on its graduate trainee programme and progressed through the Group and delivered a wide range of construction and infrastructure projects in the UK, including Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit), Crossrail and St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight.
He will continue to oversee operational delivery of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall (EKFB), the joint venture responsible for delivering civil engineering works for an 80km section of HS2 between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood, until the end of the year, and will support with the search for his successor.

Mr Pengelly said: ‘I’ve enjoyed 39 fantastic years at Kier. I joined as an undergraduate and over my career, I am proud to have worked with some incredibly talented people to deliver critically-important infrastructure which has helped connect and support communities.
‘To finish my career working on one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects is a real highlight and, over the coming months, I will continue to work with our joint venture partners on this project.
‘I’d like to sincerely thank colleagues – past and present – who have helped shape and support my career over the years, and I look forward to seeing the next generation of talent drive the industry forward.’
