More defences for Boscastle

Plans have been unveiled for the next stage of Boscastle’s flood defences.

The Environment Agency this week opened a public exhibition of a £4.6M scheme to prevent a repetition of the flooding that devastated the north Cornwall village in August 2004. The River Valency will be widened and lowered to take higher flows, and a bridge replaced to reduce the obstruction near Boscastle’s harbour.
In the immediate aftermath of the extreme flood, the agency built a bypass culvert on the River Jordan and a new outfall in the Valency.
