Lugg on his way to greater things in Notts

 

Via East Midlands Limited has appointed Highways magazine Lifetime Achievement Award winner Matthew Lugg OBE as its non-executive chairman.

Mr Lugg has more than 40 years’ experience in public and private sectors and has held several senior leadership roles at local authorities across the country. He was awarded an OBE in 2012 for services to Local Government.

In 2021 he became the second winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Highways Awards.

Teckal company Via, which provides highway services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, said the appointment of comes at a significant time of progress for highways within the county.

Managing director Dan Maher said: ‘Matthew’s appointment gives us a solid and consistent base for us to continue our journey of innovation and continuous improvement, delivering real value for the people of Nottinghamshire, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.

‘I’d like to welcome Matthew to the Via team and look forward to working with him.’

Mr Lugg said: ‘I’m relishing the challenge of using my vast knowledge and experience of the highways sector to help the Via Board with its ambition to continue improving service delivery outcomes for Nottinghamshire.’

Via East Midlands Limited, trading as Via, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nottinghamshire County Council, with which it has an exclusive 10-year term service contract, running from 2016 to 26 with the potential for a five-year extension.

It delivers multi-disciplinary design and consultancy services, highway maintenance, construction, signals and lighting, environmental management, fleet services and road safety, whilst providing key highway management services including customer liaison, street works co-ordination and highway asset management.

As a Teckal company, Via also undertakes third-party work with both public and private-sector organisations.
