Industry calls out 'chop and change' rail planning

Rail infrastructure contractors have lambasted the Government for being two years late on the release of delivery strategies and questioned ministers' commitment to their own Integrated Rail Plan (IRP).

In its submission to the Transport Select Committee inquiry into the IRP, the Railway Industry Association (RIA) urged the Government to deliver the plan as soon as possible and to publish the Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline (RNEP).

It highlighted that there has still been no update on the RNEP, the process by which many IRP projects will be signed off, and that it has been more than 800 days after the last publication of the RNEP, despite promises to update annually.
