Giant leap takes Armstrong upwards at BGA

 

Nick Armstrong, a manager with Fugro’s site characterisation and geoconsulting business, has been appointed honorary secretary of the British Geotechnical Association (BGA).

Having joined the BGA as a member last year, Mr Armstrong was appointed to the three-year role following interview and recommendation to the executive committee.

He said: ‘I am delighted to have been accepted for the position of honorary secretary. The association is hugely influential within the sphere of geotechnical engineering, both in the UK and internationally, and plays a crucial role in relation to training and professional development.

‘I look forward to promoting innovation and best practice to help the industry move forward in these exciting times.’

The BGA specialises in the application of soil mechanics, rock mechanics and geology to engineering, instigating discussion on industry issues and providing technical seminars and input to training development.

Mr Armstrong brings 40 years’ professional experience to the role, including 25 years working on ground investigation projects with Fugro.

He joined the firm in 1992 as a principal geotechnical engineer and was promoted to be engineering and reporting manager in 2015.

His current responsibilities include the technical execution and delivery of drilling and ground investigation projects in the UK and Europe, together with team management, technical quality, and skills development.
