Eastern square project promises to boost neglected city area

Nottingham City Council has approved proposals to redevelop a public square on the east side of the city centre.

The local authority will revamp Sneinton Square as part of its ‘people and places’ project to improve the area. Local transport plan funding of £2.3M has been secured, together with £1.75M from the European regional development fund.

The work will enhance access and links through the area, improve its image in order to attract investment, and see a new public square built as a centrepiece to the scheme.

A council spokesman said: ‘The square works will deliver high-quality public realm improvements and a new public square. This will raise the quality and profile of an area which currently suffers from a poor image.’
