Derbyshire’s historic move

A new stretch of road which will help preserve an important piece of pre-history opened in Derbyshire this week. The £1.2M scheme to replace a section of the B6042 at Creswell Crags has diverted traffic further away from the world’s most northerly cave art site. It also gives access to the site, where the old road will eventually be taken up and turned into a bridleway for walkers, cyclists and riders. The county council and Lafarge Aggregates funded the work on land dedicated by Welbeck Estates.
