Cub scout prepared to take on HS2

A nine year old cub scout has slammed the ‘really, really bad maths’ of HS2 bosses, in an historic appearance before Parliament.

Alex Rukin, son of Stop HS2 campaign manager Joe, yesterday warned a committee of MPs of a multi-billion pound black hole in spending estimates surrounding the landmark project while highlighting the impact construction could have on his day to day life.

Alex’s petition to MPs outlined that he was ‘worried that HS2 will cost lots more than the people are saying’, adding that he and his friends ‘will have to pay more money forever for something they think isn’t needed and they won’t have enough money to be able to use it’.

While the young Cub Scout’s arms already looked laden with awards when he spoke to MPs, perhaps Alex could be in line for badges such as Naturalist, Navigator (of high speed train routes) or even Local Knowledge.

The Scout Association was unable to be reached as to whether Alex would be eligible for any new badges after his show in Parliament.

Given his passionate display, Alex could be destined to join other Scout alumni into a world of politics. Former prime minister Tony Blair was once a Scout, while the US president Barack Obama is famed for having once donned the wogggle. ?
