Buckinghamshire Council brought in £1.4m from parking fines last year, a 50% increase compared to 2022.
In 2022, the authority issued around 31,000 penalty charge notices (PCNs) for parking contraventions, bringing in £90,000. Last year, it issued almost 50,000 notices.
Buckinghamshire’s cabinet member for transport, Steven Broadbent, said the increase was ‘purely down to the number of contraventions’, adding that the county has seen ‘traffic levels increase year on year’.
Any surplus funds from PCNs are ring-fenced for transport and environment initiatives, Cllr Broadbent said.
He added: ‘Overall, we do issue a higher number of PCNs in Buckinghamshire than some other parts of the UK.
‘This is down to location and road use. We are a very large county area with an extensive road network, high population, high road usage and a number of busy towns so we will naturally see higher numbers of parking violations.’
