Carmarthenshire County Council 's plans for a £7.5M facelift for the town centre of Llanelli have proved a popular hit with residents who visited an exhibition of the proposals.
The scheme includes plans to protect the town’s conservation area and pedestrianise the Bridge Street area, which includes the grade one listed Llanelli House.
Funding for the scheme will also come from the Welsh Assembly and European Objective One money and a spokesman for the council said: ‘The exhibition was a great success.’
Transport: TfL turns to workshops to improve speed awareness Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police are to launch speed awareness workshops, in what has been described as Britain’s biggest driver re-education programme.
The initiative is based on existing schemes in Thames Valley and Northumbria but is part of the London Safety Camera Partnership’s campaign and targeted at motorists caught speeding.
Drivers issued with a penalty for speeding at a set amount over the speed limit will be offered the chance to take a speed awareness workshop instead of a fixed penalty fine and penalty points on their driving licences.
The workshops will cost £72 and last for two and a half hours with the first opening in Islington on 7 August. Courses will eventually be offered at five sites throughout the capital.
Jenny Jones, Green Party member of the London Assembly, said: ‘It will undoubtedly become the biggest driver re-education course in Britain.’
