New conference focuses on hidden defects in bridges

A new event from our sister publication, Bridge design & engineering magazine, will shine a spotlight on the crucial issue of hidden defects in bridges, following a recent spate of high-profile bridge failures and closures.

Workers on Barrow-on-Soar bridge

The partial collapse of the Barrow-on-Soar bridge over one of the UK’s busiest railway lines earlier this year is just the latest in a number of worrying bridge failures, which have been put down to underlying structural defects that were not identified or managed.

The Bd&e Hidden Defects Conference is being organised in partnership with Ciria, publisher of a new report into the subject.

Whether a defect is actually hidden from view, not identified as such, or simply not managed properly, the outcome for bridge owners and users can be inconvenient and costly at best, at worst catastrophic.

This one-day forum features presentations from the authors of the report, bridge owners including Highways England, Transport Scotland and Network Rail, bridge inspectors, structural engineers and other industry specialists.

The contents of another forthcoming Ciria report into safety-critical fixings will also be covered.

Online bookings have opened, with early bird rates valid until 14th October; click here to book your place now!
