Zones merge as Brighton seeks to tackle waiting list

Plans to merge eight small parking zones in central Brighton into two large ones have been given the go ahead.
The scheme has been pushed forward in an effort to deal with 940 residents on the waiting list for parking permits in central Brighton.
Brighton & Hove City Council’s environment committee approved plans to turn parking zones A, B, C, D, E, F, G, K and L into north and south central zones. The scheme will also get rid of the voucher system in favour of pay and display, reduce resident permit waiting lists, standardise the tariff structure, and phase out time-limited free parking and replace it with residents’ parking bays.
Gill Mitchell, chair of the environment committee, said: ‘These proposals will make city centre parking fairer and easier, and also reduce resident permit waiting lists which, at the moment, are very long in the smaller city centre zones.’
