York hybrid hits streets

 
First Group’s ‘cross between a bus and a tram’ will start operating in York in May. The ‘ftr’ vehicles, costing £300,000, will hit the city’s streets in a UK first. The city council is raising kerbs at each stop in advance of the launch to allow all passengers to easily board. But providing further bus priorities – First has said that bus priority is vital for the system’s business case to stack up (Surveyor, 17 March 2005) – will follow in 2006/07.
