World Cup road safety campaign launched

A campaign to combat drink driving during the forthcoming football World Cup has been launched by Essex County Council.
The Essex Casualty Reduction Board has teamed up with some sporting personalities to launch the summer drink-drive campaign aimed at 17-29 year-old males who may want to enjoy a drink during the World Cup. Essex's cabinet member for highways and transportation Cllr Rodney Bass said: 'There will be an increase in alcohol consumption which is likely to have a dierct correlation with drink-driving events.'
Lending their support to the Board's campaign, which will involve posters in pubs and clubs and Stansted Airport - which supporters will use to fly to Germany - are players from Colchester United Football Club.
