Workplace levy remains Nottingham’s choice

~Nottingham City Council~ has restated its commitment to its long-standing proposal for a workplace parking levy, while carrying out further research into the impacts on business.
The finalised local transport plan for Greater Nottingham reveals that, following a review undertaken by consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers into the economic impact, further research is now being undertaken to ‘substantiate the anticipated impacts of the levy’.
The results of PwC’s work, completed last year – which entailed interviewing more than 150 Nottingham employers – are currently being analysed, and a city council response prepared.
Around 33,000 parking spaces would be captured by the charge, with the specification for the scheme assuming around a 10% reduction brought about by employers reducing what they have to pay. A major call on the levy income would be to help meet a government requirement that 25% of the funding for projects such as the Nottingham Express Transit should be found locally.
The LTP2 document, which went to the Department for Transport  last week, stresses that the workplace parking levy would represent high value for money, and would be quicker to implement than a road-user charge.
