Woolwich fires off arsenal of improvements

A £3.2M urban realm-improvement scheme has been completed in Woolwich town centre, east London.

The first phase of the Woolwich Town Centre Scheme has seen the installation of a new ‘super crossing’ at Plumstead Road, the planting of at least 100 trees and the installation of high-quality street furniture. The project is being managed by Transport for London, Greenwich council and the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Cllr Peter Brooks, cabinet member for regeneration at Greenwich council, said: ‘The Woolwich Town Centre Scheme has already delivered real improvements, making it much easier and safer to cross Plumstead Road as a pedestrian or cyclist, and making local bus routes quicker and more direct, while visually transforming a section of Woolwich New Road.’
