Winterton replaced in Cabinet reshuffle

The new local transport secretary has pledged to deliver ‘reliable and efficient’ transport networks, following the prime minister’s cabinet reshuffle last week, which sees a new line-up at the Department for Transport.

Paul Clark, who succeeds Rosie Winterton, takes control of her city and regional networks portfolio with responsibility for local authority transport. His brief includes buses, light rail, walking, accessibility, cycling and Transport and Works Act orders for new infrastructure.

New secretary of state for transport, Geoff Hoon, said he was delighted with the news of his appointment following the departure of Ruth Kelly. Lord Andrew Adonis has left his post as schools minister to become transport minister with responsibility for national rail, Crossrail and the impact of climate change.
