Town halls would not need Whitehall consent to fix traffic signs to certain London buildings, to stop up private vehicle accesses, or to convert foopaths to cycle tracks under new proposals.
A new cross-Government report promises to remove excessive bureaucracy and empower local government to deliver first class public services.
The actions proposed in Consent Regimes: Reducing Unnecessary Bureaucracy 'give local authorities more freedom to take local decisions and free up valuable staff time', according to the ~Cabinet Office~.
