White way’s right for Leeds

Work has started on a five-year scheme to replace 80% of Leeds’ streetlights with modern, energy-efficient white lights.
Leeds City Council, which will invest £100M in the project, says the new white lights will consume 30% less electricity than the existing lighting and rid the city of its nocturnal orange glow. Tunnels, underpasses, pedestrian subways and cycle lanes will be equipped with the new lighting facilities, as well as traffic signs and bollards.
