Wheelie bin delay after channel tunnel blaze

Hundreds of residents across south Worcestershire will have to wait to receive their large wheelie bins, after their delivery was delayed due to the fire in the Channel Tunnel.

The 240 litre bins were due to be delivered to 200 households a fortnight ago, but suppliers will not be able to provide the bins until later this month.

As an interim measure, Wychavon District Council has supplied the properties affected with a standard 180l general waste bin, plus supplies of black sacks – these will be collected as side waste until the new larger bins are delivered.

Phil Merrick, head of community services, said: ‘We’re sorry there are delays for the larger bins and we’re working hard to ensure they get to residents as quickly as possible.’ Residents who requested the smaller 140l bins have received them this week.
