Westbury bypass goes east

A £33.1M road scheme in Westbury, Wiltshire, moved one step closer to reality last week, with the approval of long-awaited bypass plans by the county council’s regulatory committee.
The Westbury bypass, which has been in the pipeline for several years, will bring a single carriageway road on the eastern side of the town. The Government will pay for the scheme, and will include £1.3M worth of improvements for Westbury town centre. A public inquiry will be held later this year, and work is expected to start in 2009.
