The Welsh Assembly has unveiled plans to expand and improve transport for pupils and students in Wales.
The assembly has published guidance to help local authorities manage learner travel arrangements in what it calls a ‘key step’ for the Learner travel measure.
The initiative, which came into law last December, aims to expand access to free school transport for primary schoolchildren across the country, improve safety and provide clarity over transport provision.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, the minister for economy and transport, said: ‘Travel should not be a barrier to children and young people participating in education.’
The new guidance outlines how authorities should organise learner travel as well as detailing how the timing of the school day can be altered to improve efficiency and effectiveness of travel arrangements.
