Welsh sing praises of silent waste truck

The UK’s first plug-in electric waste-collection vehicle was officially launched in Wales last week.

The truck, built by Geesink Norba at its factory in South Wales, uses electric power to lift and empty bins, and crush-compact waste material, almost silently and with zero emissions.

Welsh Assembly environment minister, Jane Davidson, said: ‘Geesink Norba is a great example of how we can make the most of these potential greener jobs, with 140 people employed on site at Llantrisant making a world-class product.

‘This low-emission truck, built in Wales, shows how electric vehicles will play an important part in a low-carbon future.’

Chris Tecca, group managing director of Geesink Norba, said: ‘The launch of this vehicle in the UK marks a significant step forward in the waste collection and recycling industry.’
