Welsh road link gets go ahead

The £50M Porthmadog bypass in Wales has been given the go ahead.

Transport minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said the new section of the A487 would improve journey times, ease congestion and significantly improve environmental conditions within Porthmadog, Tremadog and Minffordd.

‘The A487 is a vitally-important route for travelling between north and south Wales, as well as being a key connection between towns and villages in the area,’ he said.

‘It can also become very congested, especially during the summer months, which creates serious problems for road-users, including business and residents.’

The decision follows a public inquiry in December, during which the inspector reported that the bypass was the best solution for relieving congestion in the town and improving this section of the A487.
