Welsh communities’ ‘vital role’ to improve environment

Communities have a vital role to play in helping deliver environmental improvements in Wales, according to environment, sustainability and housing minister, Jane Davidson.

The minister praised voluntary groups across Wales for their work at the launch of the next stage of delivering the Welsh Assembly Government’s Environment Strategy.

She met with volunteers from the Soul In Dinas group, which has been working with Keep Wales Tidy, as part of the ‘Tidy towns’ initiative, to clean graffiti, pick litter and cut back overgrown vegetation in the area.

Mrs Davidson said: ‘I see the launch of our new environment strategy action plan as the start of an exciting new phase in delivery on the environment in Wales. And I will be looking to all our key environmental partners to help us deliver a better and more sustainable environment which can be enjoyed by all individuals within the community.’

The second action plan contains 41 actions across 10 themes, and sets out what will be done to achieve progress towards the environment strategy’s outcomes.
