Waste’s costly prediction

London boroughs will need a 50% increase in funding for waste services over the next 15 years, if current targets are to be met.
A study by Mouchel Parkman for the Greater London Authority and the Association of London Government put the total cost of meeting performance targets at £5.2bn-£5.8bn. But funding has not even kept pace with inflation over the past five years, while collection and disposal costs rose by 55%.
A massive 25% of the total cost is predicted to go on paying the landfill tax, according to the Waste Modelling for London project.
