Waste reduction success boosts Welsh indicators

More than 80% of performance indicators in transport and environment in Wales have improved from last year, according to the latest report from the Local Government Data Unit – Wales.

Waste reduction showed good improvements, with Welsh local authorities recycling 18% of waste collected, compared with 15% in 2005-06. This meant the proportion of waste sent to landfill dropped by 2% across the principality, with Bridgend now sending just 49% of rubbish to dumps, and Cardiff 82%.

In its defence, the Welsh capital said it had brought in changes since the data had been gathered.
