Waste: Tesco bags a winning idea

 
The Local Government Association has welcomed plans by supermarket giant Tesco to slash the numbers of plastic bags it gives to customers.
The supermarket chain will give club card points to customers who reuse bags to encourage them not to take bags, which contribute to millions of tonnes of landfilled waste each year.
Jim Harker, vice chair of the environmental board, said: ‘It is a step in the right direction.’
