A council has vowed to continue taking legal action against people who abuse their recycling policy, after charges brought against a resident for contaminating her recycling bin were thrown out.
Exeter City Council made the vow after Donna Challice, 30, of Exeter, was cleared of six charges for placing residual waste into her green bin.
The case, which cost an estimated £6,000, and was brought under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, was dismissed due to lack of evidence that Challice rather than passers-by had put the rubbish into the bin.
Environment portfolio holder, Cllr Pete Edwards, said: ‘We will continue to take action against anyone who contaminates their recycling bins. We can’t let the thoughtless minority spoil it for the selfless majority.’
