Waste: Colliery’s new energy source

A former colliery in Nottinghamshire has been selected as the site for a proposed energy-from-waste plant.
The facility, suggested as part of the county’s private-finance initiative contract for the disposal of 460,000 tonnes of waste produced every year, would have the capacity to handle 180,000 tonnes, and is planned to be operational by 2011.
