Warning over city funding

Local authority transport departments have been warned to ‘be at the table’ when it comes to city region funding, ‘or be on the menu’.

Professor Janice Morphet, a member of the Modernising Local Government team and former chief executive at Rutland Council, gave the stark warning in her presentation ‘City regions – the vision for local authorities.’

Speaking at the National Transport Conference, Morphet expressed concern that transport officials would miss out on funding because they were not aware of what would be on offer.

‘Funding will come in a single pot, and departments need to be ready to claim their share, or they will miss out,’ she said.
