Vote rescues charging plan

 
Greater Manchester’s congestion charge plans have survived a bid to turn a fourth council against them.

Had Rochdale voted to reject the TIF plans, the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities would have lost the two-thirds majority it needs to progress.

Stockport, Trafford and Bury have already rejected the idea. But Liberal-controlled Rochdale voted to stick with the plans after an address by Councillor Roger Jones, chairman of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority.
