Viaduct gets a spruce up

Leeds City Council will start essential maintenance work to Wellington Street viaduct next week.

The flyover – constructed in 1973 – will be painted to protect the steel frame from rust and corrosion, as well as to improve its appearance.

The council said some lane and road closures would be necessary to ensure the work could be completed safely. These closures will only take place on Sundays.

Cllr Andrew Carter, joint leader and executive member responsible for city development, said the council would do its best to keep delays to a minimum.

The work begins on 26 May, and will continue until autumn.
