Vandals make costly error

 
Three so-called ‘smiling sids’ vehicle-activated signs have been attacked on Teeside, apparently by people believing they are speed cameras. Three of the £2,000 signs have been damaged in recent months in Redcar and Cleveland. The council’s road safety manager ~Mike Hall~ condemned the ‘mindless vandalism’. The vandals had climbed up the lamp columns and smashed the back panels. The devices had been installed where local residents had asked for them, the council stressed.
