Vale lifted on White Horse’s flood response

Vale of White Horse District Council has admitted its emergency plan needs to be updated urgently, in light of its response to this summer’s floods.

A report carried out by the council said communication systems needed to be improved and that a well-positioned and properly equipped control room should be set up to act as an incident base, with all the necessary technical and administrative facilities in place.

The review covers the period 20-27 July, when more than 1,000 homes in the Vale were affected by flooding from either flash floods or from the River Ock or River Thames.

Tim Sadler, strategic director at the Vale, said: ‘While the council worked extremely hard, both during and after the floods, to help those most in need, we felt it was important to learn from what happened.’
