Appearing for the first time at Road Expo this year, VPS Site Security will be showing off its JCB Smart Tower product, providing temporary and remote CCTV security with virtually no need for supporting ground infrastructure.
The VPS Smart Tower
Already installed at thousands of sites across the UK, including on highways and rail projects, the 9m hydraulic CCTV tower provides a pan-tilt-zoom camera with infra-red illuminators, movement detectors, a digital recorder and a public address system, and can provide thermal imaging for up to 2km.
According to VPS, the Smart Tower Platinum is the first rapid-deployment CCTV system to use thermal cameras and can operate in zero light. It can also be connected to a hydrogen fuel cell meaning there is no need for on-site power.
The towers have been used for several months by Costain on its A465 improvement project. VPS provided 18 of these stand-alone towers to help police the long and sometimes remote works site.
A Costain spokesperson said: ‘The 14km stretch of work requires equipment and satellite compounds over a long stretch of land.
'The JCB towers not only keep the compounds and plants secure from theft or vandalism, but also give us an early warning of motorists whole vehicles break down along the route and require help. It means the site is protected and we can minimise potential delays to the project.’
