UK traffic calming ‘lags behind Europe’

 

The use of traffic calming in the UK still lags behind the rest of Europe, with dire effects for road safety, according to the author of the nation’s first-ever traffic calming guidelines Traffic consultant, Tim Pharoah, who wrote the landmark Devon CC traffic calming guidelines which laid out 19 measures – the first time a local authority had set out to slow down traffic speeds through street design – has attacked the standard of present-day traffic calming.
