Tyneside crossing reopens

The Blue House Bridge in North Tyneside has fully reopened to the public after the completion of a £3.5M project to replace the original bridge with two structures.

North Tyneside Council embarked on the project to build two structures – one eastbound and one westbound - more than two years ago, when it became apparent that the existing bridge was at the end of its serviceable life.

Temporary speed restrictions have now been lifted on the A1058 coast road. The new bridge was designed by the council consultant partner, Scott Wilson, and constructed by Carillon regional civil engineering.

Built in the 1920s, the original bridge was found to be showing signs of corrosion in 2005 during routine checks on all borough bridges.
