The future of the proposed £185M New Tyne Crossing will be decided after Easter, following a legal challenge against the decision to give the scheme the green light.
London’s High Court heard last week from South Shields resident, Bryan Atkinson, who brought the action last year after the scheme won governmental approval, following a public inquiry.
The challenge is against the decision to give the go-ahead to build the immersed tube tunnel.
Atkinson, who brought the action as an individual, challenged the validity of the scheme’s environmental statement, centred on management of the construction waste. The judge reserved his ruling until after Easter.
