Croydon Council will next week begin a survey to gauge support for a possible second 20mph zone.
Residents and businesses in the north east of the London borough will be asked if they want the speed limit on their local roads.
The council’s first 20mph limit area is currently being introduced in the north of the borough after a majority of respondents backed similar proposals last year, albeit with a low response rate.
As with the changes to the north of the borough, the new proposal does not include A roads.

Cllr Kathy Bee, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: ‘Residents in the north of our borough said yes to 20mph last year, and now we want to hear if people from the north-east want it too.
‘Croydon had over 1,000 road casualties in 2014, which underlines why our 20mph plans are important and will make our borough safer for everyone if enough people come forward to support them.’
The council says if there is enough support for the proposal it will go to a formal consultation, after which its traffic management committee would make final recommendations.
It agreed last year to ask everyone in the borough by 2018 whether they want a 20mph limit on their non-main roads. After the current exercise it will outline its timetable for asking people in three remaining areas.
