Tunnel revamp completed

A £75M scheme to refurbish and add extra lanes through the Holmesdale Tunnel on the M25 has been completed by the Highways Agency three months ahead of schedule.

An extra lane has also been added to the eastbound M25 at junction 25, while key tunnel systems, including lighting, ventilation, CCTV monitoring and incident detection systems, have been upgraded.

Transport minister Tom Harris said: ‘120,000 vehicles use this busy part of the M25 every day. Adding these lanes, combined with the tunnel refurbishment, will ease congestion, shortern journeys and improve safety.’
