Tube strike cancelled

A potentially crippling London Underground strike planned for this Tuesday has been called off after the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union agreed to suspend it.

Fellow unions Aslef, TSSA and Unite have also called off their action over pay, the Night Tube and station rotas, the BBC has reported.

RMT’s general secretary Mick Cash said: ‘RMT's executive has agreed to suspend tomorrow's action over pay and Night Tube to allow for further consideration and consultation on the current offer. The union makes it clear that we remain in dispute and the strike action scheduled for February remains on.

‘RMT also remains in dispute over station staffing and the week of action on that issue, scheduled to begin from the seventh of February, also remains on and the union is finalising the details for the continuation of that industrial campaign and the on-going fight over the threat to jobs, services and safety.’

Further industrial action is planned, with two more 24-hour strikes arranged for 15 and 17 February.

An additional strike on 7 February has also been called in a row with the RMT over jobs and station staffing.

The four year pay offer consists of:

  • Year 1 would remain at an average of 2%;
  • Years 2 and 3 would remain at RPI or 1%, whichever is greater;
  • Year 4 would be RPI plus 0.25%.
  • We will also offer a £500 bonus for all staff on Night Tube lines.
  • TfL will not be changing any existing terms and conditions through the delivery of the Night Tube.
