Trial is a shining example

Leicestershire County Council is trialling new ‘Zebrite’ lights at a crossing in Countesthorpe.

Zebrites use LED technology to increase driver’s awareness of the crossing – especially in daylight, when the existing Belisha beacons are not as bright. The product is designed to shine directly towards oncoming vehicles rather than into adjacent properties.

Nicholas Rushton, deputy county council leader with responsibility for highways and transportation, said: ‘We hope the new lights will improve visibility and reduce pedestrian accidents at the crossing, and will monitor them over the next few months to determine their success.’
