The transportation sector and construction industry have once again been recognised as having a number of the country’s top employers.
In what The Sunday Times newspaper says is the UK’s biggest survey of employees – with more than 180,000 taking part – companies across the UK were assessed in categories including employee wellbeing, fair dealing over pay and benefits, and personal growth.
The ‘20 big companies to work for’ league table included three major transportation consultancies, Mott MacDonald, Atkins and the Mouchel Group. The ‘top 100 companies to work for’ included environmental and structural engineer Hydrock; design engineer Ramboll Whitbybird; Arup; transportation/ environmental consultant Faber Maunsell; Birse Civils; and infrastructure/environmental consultant Royal Haskoning.
Mouchel entered the ‘20 big companies’ list at 16th place, ahead of Vodafone and Deutsche Bank. Mouchel chief executive, Richard Cuthbert, said: ‘This award is great news for our profile and our ability to attract the calibre of people who’ll make Mouchel an even better place to be.’
Mott MacDonald was placed eighth in the same list, retaining its position as top-placed consultancy in the sector. Peter Wickens, the company’s chair, said: ‘We hope our latest success in these awards will continue to encourage talented people to view us as their employer of choice.’
However, Transport Planning Society’s executive committee member, Martin Richards, warned that, of 18 transportation consultancies reporting recently they were not able to fill positions, six were in last year’s The Sunday Times’ ‘best companies to work for’ lists. ‘These are very good employers, but they are still experiencing problems with recruiting,’ he said.
