Transport: Stockport cuts bus journey times with queue-busting service

An innovative new busway designed to shave time off bus journeys into Stockport town centre has opened.
The 130m busway cuts through Portwood roundabout at junction 27 of the M60, halving the time it takes to travel from one side to the other during peak periods.
Councillor Roger Jones, chair of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, said: ‘Buses no longer have to queue, and motorists are unlikely to notice any difference.’ Proposals to create a similar busway at the other side of Stockport town centre, through the roundabout at junction 1 of the M60, are also being developed.
