Transport: Scottish bikers’ £8M boost

The Scottish national cycling network is set to benefit from £8M of investment over the next two years. The Scottish Executive funding to extend and maintain the network in 2006/07 and 2007/08 has been welcomed by Sustrans Scotland. John Lauder, director of Sustrans Scotland, said that funding had previously been provided late in the financial year, sometimes providing as little as one month to spend it. Just below 80% had been completed to date, but the new funding would help deliver a planned further 800 kilometres of route, said Scottish transport minister, Tavish Scott.
